Ron Bruns as 2009 LIvestock Honoree

The North Star Classic is proud to announce Ron Bruns, Baltic, SD as the 2009 Livestock Honoree.

Bruns grew up on a farm near Madison, SD along with three brothers and one sister. Bruns purchased two Angus heifers as a ten year old 4-Her showing beef for eleven years while in 4-H. Bruns was a member of the county 4-H livestock judging team which won the state contest and placed 10th at the Chicago International.

He attended SDSU majoring in animal science and graduated in 1963. Bruns was a member of the SDSU Livestock judging team which won the Chicago International in 1962. After graduation he worked for two years as a county agent before taking a job as Ag Loan Officer at the local bank in Baltic, SD. Bruns has four children who graduated from Baltic, all being active in sports and 4-H. Bob lives in Fort Worth, TX; Heidi in Antler, ND; Mark in Watertown, SD, and Brady in Denver, CO.

Bruns served in his county as a 4-H leader for twenty-five years and three years on the Natnioal 4-H Leaders Board. He currently raises Angus cattle and club calves on a farm just east of Baltic, SD. Bruns holds a club calf sale each year on the third Saturday of November.

Bruns’ family has exhibited at the North Dakota Winter Show since 1979 and at the North Star Classic since it was started. They have always enjoyed coming to the shows, visiting with friends and having a good time in a very family friendly atmosphere. Bruns would like to thank the North Dakota Winter Show committee for this honor and the many people who make the show a success and may the NDWS continue to have many more.

The 2009 Livestock Honoree presentation will be made to Ron Bruns on Friday, December 4, at 4:00 p.m. prior to the Selection of Supreme Champions during the 10th Annual North Star Classic.

Shotgun Red Dinner Show

Shotgun Red Dinner Show

Steve Hall/Shogun Red and the Shotgun Red Band will provide the entertainment at the North Star Classic Dinner Show scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2009, at 7:00 pm at the Valley City Eagles Club.

Tickets are $40 per person and include a prime rib dinner. Tickets are available by calling 800-437-0218, beginning October 1. Attendees must be 21 years old.

NSC 2009 Preview

The North Star Classic is proud to announce the 10th Anniversary Show to be held December 3-6, 2009. This event will take place at the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center in Valley City, ND.

As part of the festivities, the North Star Classic will host for the first time, “A Breeder’s Cup Jackpot, A People’s Choice Event.” This will be held on Thursday, December 3 in the Main Arena. This event will provide the producers an opportunity to showcase the best of their herd while competing for the distinction as the 2009 Breeder’s Cup Champion. The winner will receive half of the proceeds from the ticket sales. The remaining half of the proceeds will be available for a scholarship. Please plan to attend this unique event!

The other change for 2009 is that the Pen Show will be held on Thursday, December 3 at 2 pm in the Frontier Arena. This will begin after the conclusion of CHS Nutrition Pen of 3 Showcase.
As in the past, the Open Show will be held on Friday, December 4; the Breed Sales on Saturday, December 5; and the Junior Show on Sunday, December 6.
